Here’s a report that confirms, I’m afraid, what I know from clinical experience, particularly in my work in remote communities. It seems large numbers of Australians still don’t “get” the importance of their daily dental hygiene – or at least not until it’s too late, and they are losing teeth.
I love the work I do with dental implants, but I’m still finding myself placing far too many to replace teeth that could, with proper care, have lasted many more years.
Brush thoroughly twice a day, ideally with an electric toothbrush. If you have lost any gum, either through gum disease or simply through aging, you should take special care to clean between your teeth, using floss or one of the interproximal brushes available from the chemist. Talk to us if you are unsure what’s best for you.
